SIEGFRIED'S LATE PK GOAL LIFTS PLNU TO VICTORY

FRESNO - Tim Siegfried nets two goals to help the Sea Lions collect their third straight PacWest victory as the Sea Lions defeated Fresno Pacific 2-1 on Friday, Oct. 25.

The Sea Lion offense kicked off the game in spectacular fashion. In the second minute of play Lucas Purgato would take a shot, but was saved by the Sun Bird keeper. Fresno Pacific would gain possession and then turn the ball over. David Achaerandio collected the ball and sent a pass across the field to Corey Lundeen. Lundeen would flick the ball to Tim Siegfried who would shoot and score on a volley. The goal would put the Sea Lions up 1-0 in the fourth minute of play. The PLNU offense stayed on the attack for the remainder of the first half. PLNU would send 6 more shots toward the net three being on goal. Connor McEwen would hold strong in net for the Sea Lions on the defensive side of the ball recording four saves in the first half.

As the second half began the Sea Lions looked to keep the offensive momentum going. They would continue to take shots on net but could not beat the Sun Bird keeper. Jorge Navarro and David Achaerandio would each look to score but both shots would be saved. The FPU offense took advantage of the Sea Lion missed opportunities as they netted a goal of their own in the 65th minute. The Sun Bird defender chipped the ball over McEwen to tie the game 1-1. The next ten minutes the Fresno Pacific offense would keep the momentum from the goal and shoot two more times, one missing wide, and the other hitting the post.

After the Fresno Pacific shot that hit the post, that is all the PLNU defense needed to turn things in their favor. Purgato would fire a shot on net in the 76th minute that was saved by the FPU keeper. Three minutes later the Tim Siegfried drew a foul in the penalty box, and was rewarded a penalty kick. Siegfried would convert the PK into a goal and give PLNU a 2-1 lead with ten minutes to play. FPU would try two more shots in the remaining ten minutes but could not convert. The Sea Lion defense held off a potential game-tying goal and would come out victorious 2-1.
