SAN DIEGO –
David Achaerandio and
Parker Scalzo each recorded a hat-trick in the Sea Lions' 9-1 victory over Chaminade on Monday, Oct. 28.
The Sea Lion offense was firing on all cylinders in their win. PLNU struck quickly when
Jorge Navarro crossed the ball to
Hunter Loomis, who then played the ball to
David Achaerandio who tapped the ball in at the far post of the goal. The Sea Lions would lead 1-0 in the fifth minute of play. PLNU would have multiple chances of scoring again but could not convert until the 24th minute. In the 24th minute,
Tim Siegfried received a cross from Achaerandio, around the center of the six-yard box and would flick it past the keeper to give the Sea Lions a 2-0 lead. The Sea Lions would strike again in the 26th minute. After the ball went out of play for a Point Loma throw in.
Jack Murphy threw the ball into
Hunter Loomis who took a touch, turned and shot and beat the keeper to the bottom left side of the goal. The Sea Lions would extend their lead 3-0.
The Sea Lion offense would not be content with the three goals. Point Loma would net their fourth goal when
Corey Lundeen sent a through ball to
David Achaerandio, who then shot from 25 yards out and put the ball to the bottom right side of the net. The Sea Lions would not stop scoring as
David Achaerandio netted his third goal of the game from 25 yards out off of a free kick. In the 40th minute of play as a Chaminade defender would try and make a slide tackle to steal the ball, but would end up cleating
Patrice Glaser. The Silversword defender ended up receiving a red card. Chaminade was then forced to play a man down. The Sea Lions would take a 5-0 lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime PLNU would keep their foot on the gas scoring four minutes into the second half.
Parker Scalzo received a through ball from Jacob Eisenberg, dribble around the goal and put it into a wide open net.
Parker Scalzo would strike again in the 52nd minute after
Barrett Wolf crossed the ball from right to left. Scalzo would take a touch and shoot with his left foot to beat the keeper to the bottom right side of the net. Chaminade could not get anything going on the offensive end of the ball and even got some help from the PLNU defense on their lone goal of the match. After a foul by the Sea Lions Chaminade would take a free kick and send it toward the center of the penalty box. While the ball was descending, the PLNU keeper, a PLNU defender, and a Chaminade attacker all jumped to the ball. The ball would unfortunately hit off the Sea Lion defender's head and break the plane of the goal for an own goal.
The own goal would not keep the Sea Lion offense from scoring. In the 71st minute
Teague Anderson stole the ball from the Silverswords, passed the ball up to
Parker Scalzo who made a move around the goalie and net his third goal of the game, recording his first career hat trick. As the match drew closer and closer to the end PLNU still looked to score. In the 87th minute
Patrice Glaser would score his first goal of the season. After a foul by Chaminade Glaser took a free kick from 20 yards out and put the ball to the upper left side of the goal, topping off the 9-1 victory over Chaminade.
Words from Wolf:
On the offensive explosion: "In a way I had a feeling this was coming for a little bit. We have a great group going forward, sometimes you don't score a lot of goals, and it was nice to break through."
On finishing strong on this home stand: "I think our guys still have a lot to play for. I don't think the season is away from us. We just have to keep grinding, and keep putting our best foot forward."
On creating separation between second and third place in conference: "If we can't win the league, we want to finish as high as we can. If Azusa were to slip up, you would love to be there to catch them. You want to finish as high as you can for our team, our athletic department, it means a lot to everyone."
On preparing for Hawai'i Hilo: "The great thing about today is we got to rest a lot of guys. The four games in eight days was daunting, so I think today we were able to rotate the team a bit and get guys some minutes. I feel good about where we are at."
