SEA LIONS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FIVE GAMES

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's soccer team extended their winning streak to five games after defeating Hawai'i Hilo 3-0 on Thursday, October 31.
 
The Sea Lions looked to carry their offensive explosion into the game after they ripped off three consecutive shots in less than a minute. One shot was on goal that got saved by the Vulcan keeper. Four the next 15 minutes the teams would play aggressive soccer as each team would commit a plethora of fouls. The Vulcans would take over the momentum in the 20th minute. Hawai'i Hilo would rip a shot on net that McEwen saved. After the save they received two corners but the Sea Lion defense held strong and would not concede. The Vulcans would hold another possession in which they say chances to score but were unable to beat McEwen.

In the 37th minute the Sea Lions would see a phenomenal opportunity slip through their fingers when Tim Siegfried received a pass from David Achaerandio out in front of the net. Siegfried would push the shot wide left. In the final minute of the first half PLNU would receive three corners, they would shot the ball three times but would fail to get one on net.
 
Coming out of halftime the Sea Lions looked to keep the offensive momentum going. Point Loma would take two shots but would miss wide both times. The Vulcans would move the ball down the field after the shots by PLNU. On the ensuing possession the Vulcans would be rewarded a corner kick. The Vulcans would send the corner to the middle of the box where McEwen would punch it out. The Sea Lions would clear the ball out to Achaerandio who gathered the ball, dribbled down the left side of the pitch, shake a defender, all before crossing the ball to Siegfried who tapped the ball in to the bottom right side of the goal. The Sea Lions took the lead in the 58th minute and not look back.

After the goal by Achaerandio the Sea Lions would make a couple substitutions before they would strike again. In the 75th minute of the game Achaerandio received a through ball that was sent in by Siegfried. Achaerandio received the ball and would take a left-footed shot and score putting the Sea Lions up 2-0. The scoring would not stop there. After the ball went out of play, Kyle Hoh would throw the ball back in where it would find Lucas Prugato. Purgato would send the ball ahead to Achaerandio who dribbled left, shot and hit the underside of the crossbar and break the plane of the goal line. The Sea Lions would go onto defeat the Vulcans 3-0.
