Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

SENIORS HELP EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO SIX GAMES

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's soccer team sent their six senior off with a 2-0 victory over Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 2. The scoring was led by senior David Achaerandio and senior Jorge Navarro who assisted the Achaerandio goal.

Hawai'i Pacific would take the opening kickoff and apply some offensive pressure early in the match. HPU would receive a corner and record two shots in the first two minutes of play. After a near goal by the Sharks the Sea Lions would get their offense in order and attack the HPU defense. Quickly, after the save by Connor McEwen, the Sea Lions would be rewarded a corner. HPU would play physically all throughout the match making the Sea Lions work harder for their scoring chances. Point Loma would break through in the 18th minute when Jorge Navarro sent a pass to David Achaerandio who made a move to shake a defender, booted a left-footed shot to the bottom right side of the goal, which beat the diving keeper. The Sea Lions looked to score again in the 29th minute when Alfred Hjaelmhammar had a look from the penalty spot but sent the ball high over the goal. Both teams committed multiple fouls and made substitutions but could not find their offensive stride. PLNU went into halftime leading 1-0.

After halftime the Sea Lions met the physicality of HPU. The Sea Lion defense created a lot of pressure on the Shark attackers making them uncomfortable. After HPU made a great offensive run, Corey Lundeen would make his presence felt. The Sea Lions cleared the ball to midfield where the Sea Lions collected themselves and turned this offensive possessions into a scoring opportunity. PLNU sent passes all around the box, until the ball met Lundeen at the top of the box. He would shoot the ball that missed the upper right side of the goal by a matter of inches.

For the remainder of the half the Sea Lions continued to create chances on the offensive end of the ball. Hawai'i Pacific would ramp up their physical play even more when the game crept closer and closer to end of regulation. They would receive a red card in the 81st minute. David Achaerandio settled a clear by the Sea Lion defense, made a move past a defender, and would have one man to beat. He would spin past him, but the defender would drag him down on an open look at the goal, resulting the Sharks to receive a red card. PLNU would possess the ball for the majority of the time left on the clock. In the 90th minute of play David Achaerandio found Teague Anderson on a pass into the box where Anderson shook a defender shot and scored to seal the Sea Lion victory.

Connor McEwen and the Sea Lion defense recorded their second consecutive shutouot and helping PLNU defeat Hawai'i Pacific 2-0.

Words from Wolf
On gathering 4 wins in 9 days: "We are exhausted. It's been an amazing run, the guys feel like we have to win out and they are doing a great job."
On the 2019 senior class: "I am super proud of all those guys obviously. I have not looked at it too closely, you have to think someone like Jorge Navarro probably has had the best winning career of any player. I am not sure if we have had a better four year run in our programs history. Connor is having a good year, David is doing what he is doing. I am super proud of all of them."

On preparing for Concordia: "We are going to leave that one for Saturday. We need to get rested, get away from it a little bit, heal up because right now we are running on fumes."
