WOMEN'S SOCCER SETTLES FOR A DRAW

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma and Academy of Art women's soccer teams battled to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, Oct. 19, in a PacWest Conference contest.

Academy of Art took the lead with a goal in the minute before halftime when the Sea Lions were called for a handball in the box off a corner kick. Anissa Wilson took the penalty kick, and although PLNU's goalkeeper Emma Hinson guessed the correct direction, the shot was able to slip into the bottom corner of the net for the goal.

The Sea Lions had a penalty kick opportunity of their own in the 57th minute after ART U was called for a handball in the box. Julia Glaser took the shot and directed it towards the top right portion of the net. The Urban Knights' keeper Lara Pflicke also guessed correctly and knocked the ball out of bounds.

Point Loma would find the equalizer in 68th minute on a shot from the top of the box by Glaser. Her shot was to the top of the goal, and it skimmed off the goalkeeper's fingers on its way into the net.

The Sea Lions would continue to get looks throughout the rest of the second half, but they could not come up with the go-ahead goal. Emma Hinson finished the game with three saves for PLNU, and Pflicke had seven for the Urban Knights.

PacWest Implications

Words from Coach Kiely
On the Academy of Art: "They do what they do very well. They keep numbers behind the ball, sniff out opportunities, and catch you off guard. They do all those things very well."

On ART U's goal: "It was a handball in the box, and I have no complaints there. Emma did well to almost get there, but they finished the PK."

On getting a result after going down: "Obviously the shot count and the corner count show how on them we were all game. We missed some 1v1s with the keeper, had one hit the crossbar, and a penalty kick that we usually finish. Everything we needed to have happen, happened, we just couldn't get on the other end of it."

More on the match: "I don't feel like we didn't do anything well today, other than not finish. We moved the ball well, and we got a variety of looks on goal. We threw everything at them. It just wasn't a good day for us in the box."

Scoring Summary
44:11 - ART U GOAL: Anissa Wilson (penalty kick) [ART U 1, PLNU 0]
