OUTRIGHT PACWEST CHAMPIONS!

PLNU captures the 2019 PacWest Championship outright with a tie at Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Point Loma women's soccer team earned a 0-0 tie on the road at Biola to lock up the 2019 PacWest Championship outright.

PLNU entered the match needing a result to guarantee that Concordia could not catch them in the PacWest standings. Both teams had multiple chances throughout the match, but neither could put one in the net.

Julia Glaser had a great look for PLNU deep in the second half. She collected the ball six feet in front of the net on the left side and sent in the shot to the top left corner of the net. Out of nowhere, Biola's goalkeeper Christina Rodriguez flew in and knocked the shot away to keep the score at 0-0.

It would remain that way until the end of regulation and through both overtime periods.

PacWest Implications
The Sea Lions have locked up their second straight PacWest Championship and its fourth in the past six years. PLNU has 29 points in the PacWest standings, meaning that even two wins by Concordia in the Bay Area would leave them one point short of the Sea Lions. Biola is currently tied with Concordia for second place, as each team has 22 points in PacWest play.

Words from Coach Kiely
On winning the PacWest Championship outright: "This is obviously the spot we want to be in. It feels good to carry it alone, especially because it was well-earned, and it was hard fought for."

On Biola: "Biola did not make it easy. They honored 13 seniors tonight. Their place is always a tough place to play, and they had a great crowd. They were very tough and really limited us tonight. I was proud of our ladies to secure some opportunities and deny their chances."

On preparing for postseason play: "I think you enjoy and appreciate this for the next 48 hours. Then we need to rest. That is really gonna be really important for our group. We've had a lot of people play a lot of minutes, and then a lot of people play on a lot of injuries, so we like to rest and the next few days we'll just see about resting and recovering. We may even take a deep breath for a second because we're not trying to play a game in a couple days, then we'll quickly get back to preparing for whoever we're going to face next weekend."
