VULCANS EDGE THE SEA LIONS IN FOUR

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma volleyball team's seven-match home winning streak was snapped by Hawaii Hilo in four sets on Wednesday night. (Nov. 13)

The Vulcans hit .237 across the four sets, but it was their play in sets 1 and 2 that got the early momentum on their side. UHH had 12 kills and made just three hitting errors in the first set, while PLNU actually had more kills (15) but also more errors (9) to allow the Vulcans to come back late and earn the set win. The second set could have gone either way. Point Loma had 17 kills in the set, compared to 15 for the Vulcans, but also had double the errors (8-4) and fell in extra points 27-25.

The Sea Lions shook off losing the first two sets to put together a solid third set in which it hit .300 and held UHH to a .118 hitting percentage. In the fourth set, the Sea Lions just never found their footing as it had more errors than kills. Hawaii Hilo jumped out to a 14-7 lead, and the teams exchanged points back and forth until UHH closed out the set and the match with a 25-17 win.

Jaime Cymbaluk had 13 kills to lead the Sea Lions. Madie Fox posted 12 kills to go along with her match-best six blocks. Courtney Dyer had three service aces to go along with 21 digs, and Cara Keturakis had seven kills and 35 assists. Emily Wade led UHH with 13 kills, and Bria Beale chipped in with 11.
