SAN DIEGO – Five Sea Lions scored in double-figures, and the Point Loma women's basketball team held Alaska Fairbanks to just .270 percent shooting to win its home opener 88-58.
After Alaska Fairbanks scored the opening basket of the game, the Sea Lions would answer with an 8-0 run, and they would never trail the rest of the contest. PLNU led 23-12 at the end of the first quarter and 38-24 at halftime. A 13-4 run early in the third quarter, which was capped by a 3-pointer from
Isabel Turk, pushed the Sea Lions' lead to 23 points (51-28). It would stay at that margin until midway through the fourth quarter when the Sea Lions went to their bench. The second unit continued with the energy and pushed the lead to as many as 33 points (88-55) before settling on the 30-point win.
Onjalise Carley-Hilliard had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Sea Lions. She went 6-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 at the line. Turk was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc en route to her career-high 13 points and seven rebounds.
Sydney Peterson also had 13 points, and both
Haylee Saurette and
Carol Schroeder chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Cara Liggins pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds as PLNU outrebounded UAF 55-36. Kylie Wallace and Jocelyn Gandara had 18 points each to lead the Nanooks.
