Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

NAZARENE RIVALRY GAME GOES TO POINT LOMA

PLNU defeated Trevecca Nazarene 98-72 at Homecoming

SAN DIEGOKaden Anderson scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the No. 24 ranked Point Loma men's basketball team to a 98-72 win over Trevecca Nazarene in its annual Homecoming contest. (Nov. 23)

Anderson took advantage of his matchup in the post, as the sophomore drifted outside and hit a career-high 5-of-7 shots from beyond the arch. He came into the game with just six 3-point attempts (two made) all season. Anderson also hit 7-of-8 shots from the free throw line.

Fellow sophomore Brock Mackenzie matched his season-high with 19 points and five assists for the Sea Lions. He shot 6-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. Jordan May came off the bench to post 17 points and six rebounds. Noah Stapes also filled up the stat sheet off the bench as he scored nine points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and had two steals. He was one of the seven Sea Lions that scored eight or more points in the game. Austin Wills went 7-of-9 from the field to lead Trevecca with 20 points.

Point Loma opened the game on a 9-0 run and never trailed in the contest. However, they could not put TNU away until late as the Trojans always seemed to answer every Sea Lion run. PLNU was up as many as 12 points in the first half but led just 39-35 at halftime as TNU hit a layup right before the buzzer.

In the second half, Point Loma saw its lead shrink to two (44-42) before answering with a 12-4 run to push the lead back to double-digits. The teams then traded baskets over the next few minutes before the Sea Lions went on a 19-8 run, which got their lead to over 20 points with under four minutes remaining. The fans were hoping and cheering for the Sea Lions to hit the 100-point mark for the second time this season, but they let their foot off the gas in the final minutes. This was the seventh straight win at Homecoming for Point Loma.
