Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DEFENSE KEYS SEA LIONS' SECOND WIN

SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma men's basketball team held Montana State Billings to just six points in the first 12 minutes of the second half to earn a 78-43 victory in the final game of the Sea Lion Tip-Off Classic. (Nov. 9)

Ben Okhotin hit five 3-pointers to lead five Sea Lions in double-figures with 15 points. Brock Mackenzie had 13 points, and Sterling Somers scored 11 points while grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Kaden Anderson and Darnell Robateau added 10 points apiece, and the duo combined for 15 rebounds. Brendan Howard paced MSUB with 13 points and eight rebounds.

After a sloppy first half, that saw both teams shoot under .333 percent, and PLNU took control of the game with its play to start the second half. The Sea Lions held just a 31-23 lead at the half, and their intensity was noticeably turned up after the break.

They did not yield a basket to the Yellowjackets until 15:56 mark in the second half, and they allowed just three total baskets in the first 12 minutes. Meanwhile, PLNU went on a 25-6 run to push its lead to 26 points. Even after Howard's 3-pointer stopped the Sea Lions' run, Point Loma did not let its foot off the gas. It pushed its lead to 36 points on a 3-pointer by Noah Stapes with 1:49 remaining, before the final buzzer sounded with the score at 78-43.

For the second straight game, Point Loma dominated the glass. They outrebounded MSUB by 16 (51-35), and they have now outrebounded their opponents by 34 in the first two games of the season.
