SAN DIEGO – The No. 8 Point Loma men's basketball team won its third game over a top 25 team this season when it defeated No. 22 Chaminade in overtime, 97-92. (Feb. 16)

Daulton Hommes led four Sea Lions in double-figures with 27 points.
Preston Beverly added 19 points and tied with Hommes for the team-lead with six rebounds.
Ziggy Satterthwaite paced a very efficient effort from the field for Point Loma. He was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, and PLNU shot .638 percent in the game.
Josh Rodriguez added 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and he also had four assists and four steals.

Erik Scheive led the Silverswords with 26 points. Tyler Cartaino added 21 points and eight rebounds, and Grant Dressler chipped in with 19 points and six assists.

PLNU led by one at the half (45-44), and the game remained close until the seven-minute mark when the Sea Lions went on a 7-0 spurt to take their largest lead of the game (76-69). PLNU was still up four (82-78) with 10 seconds left, and they decided to foul to prevent the 3-point attempt. At midcourt,
Josh Rodriguez was whistled for a flagrant foul which put Chaminade on the line shooting two and giving them possession after. They made both free throws and then executed with a layup on the final possession to send the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, the Sea Lions took a five-point lead with 3:14 remaining on a 3-pointer by Beverly and extended it to eight on a trey by Hommes with 1:12 left. The Sea Lions sealed the game with three free throws. Â Â

This was the third win for PLNU against a top 25 team this season. It defeated No. 15 UC San Diego earlier in the year before knocking off Chaminade in Hawaii when the Silverswords were ranked No. 19.

The win extends PLNU lead in the PacWest standings over third-place Chaminade to four games. Point Loma remains 1.5 games up on Concordia, which plays tonight against Hawaii Hilo.
