SAN DIEGO – It was a true team effort on Saturday afternoon as Point Loma pushed their win streak to nine games and came back from an early deficit to beat the Chaminade Silverswords. Five different Sea Lions scored eight or more points and the team was able to hold the PacWest's third-leading scorer to just half of her season average.
Chaminade came out hot in the first quarter, especially forward Diamond Carter who put up 11 of her 16 total points in the quarter. After trailing 17-11 going into the second quarter, Point Loma amped up their defense surrendering only five more points before the half. The Silverswords were able to cut the lead to as few as one in the final quarter, but Point Loma regained their lead and pushed it to double digits with just under three minutes left to play. The Sea Lions made their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory and continue their winning streak.
Melanie Quijano led PLNU in scoring with 13 points to go along with five rebounds.
Haylee Saurette chipped in 10 points as well and
Sydney Peterson was the only other Sea Lion to score in double digits as she put up 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Cara Liggins was just shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
