Faulkner's Thoughts
On dominating in the paint: "We were able to get out in transition. They were playing zone and I thought we did a good job of taking our opportunities in transition and attacking the gap. We put some emphasis on throwing the ball inside, I though Grace and Mo did a good job being aggressive. Carol had some really huge offensive rebounds that allowed her to get layups and that contributed to our points in the paint."
On getting solid scoring efforts from the bench: "Mo was really a nice presence around the rim, we focused on getting the ball inside and she got some layups and got to the line. Izzy was able to hit a couple of threes and Mel did her thing as well. I trust one through 12 on this team to come in and give us what we need. I think everyone is always ready to play, by the way we practice I feel like we have really good depth. They gave us solid minutes today and it was a really nice team effort."
On the fourth quarter: "At the quarter break I said this is what good teams do, they go into fourth quarters on the road and they find a way to win. I thought we had a lot of grit today, the defensive effort in the fourth quarter is what we are capable of. We played with really great intensity and effort, that's how you have to do it, you gut it out on the road against a solid team. They were playing really well, they had a solid game against us, they shot the ball well, but we were able to win it on defense. When you get stops you get opportunities to get out in transition and go score and that's what made the difference."
On closing out the season at home: "We need to continue to practice hard and be consistent. We need to give great effort. I still don't think we are quite there yet with our intensity over a full 40 minutes. That's kind of the nature of this team, we have really a lot of really nice girls, they are competitive but sometimes they need to be pushed with some intensity. I think when we get to that place where we have that intensity and effort for 40 minutes we're going to be really tough to beat. I like how we are playing right now, both offensively and defensively, I think we are starting to get into a groove."
