SAN DIEGO – Point Loma men's tennis hosted their first and only Division I opponent of the season when Navy came to San Diego Wednesday afternoon. Coming off of a tough match yesterday, Point Loma was able to turn around and get just their second win of the season, 4-3 over the Midshipmen.
Unlike yesterday's match the Sea Lions came out aggressive in doubles play, earning a quick win on court two.
Scott Wheeler and
Tim Soderman went to work securing the 6-0 sweep to give PLNU the first win.
Thomas Dafcik and
Yuki Okamoto got back to their winning ways with a 6-3 win on court one, earning the doubles point for the Sea Lions.
Tim Soderman earned the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Wheeler was not far behind with a 6-2, 6-3 win of his own on court four, giving Point Loma the 3-0 advantage, just one point away from victory. The Midshipmen were not going down easily as they fought back, taking points at Nos. 5 and 2 singles, trailing by just a point with two courts still playing. Dafcik kept his winning streak alive as he clinched a win at the No. 1 position, giving PLNU the point they needed to seal the team win.
Jasdeep Paintal played a tough match at No. 6 singles, but fell in straight sets making the final score 4-3 in favor of Point Loma.

Wheeler's Words
On coming out stronger in doubles play today: "Today was a big turnaround in doubles play compared to yesterday. As a team, we did a much better job of starting quickly and playing with confidence. We were also able to finish our sets the way we started them. Today we were much more consistent."
On keeping the momentum through singles play after winning the doubles point: "That doubles point is always a huge confidence boost going into singles, especially when our team knows it could be a close match. The point definitely gave some added confidence to the guys heading into singles play. All three of the singles matches that we won were very solid wins from start to finish."
On how this win could jump start further success: "This is a great momentum boost going into two tough matches this weekend. We face Western New Mexico, another DII team, and a conference opponent in Biola. I think the guys are feeling a lot better today than they did yesterday heading into the weekend."
