SEA LIONS SPRINT PAST MUSTANGS

SAN DIEGO – Point Loma men's tennis hosted matches Western New Mexico who came to San Diego Friday afternoon. The Sea Lions and Mustangs played to clinch with the Sea Lions earning the win 4-0. Coming off of a close victory in their matches against Navy earlier this week, Point Loma was able to grab another win and get just their third win of the season over the Mustangs.

Western New Mexico had only two doubles pairings for the match, meaning Point Loma needed to secure just one doubles win to clinch the point. Scott Wheeler and Tim Soderman got the job done with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles earning the Sea Lions the doubles point. Yuki Okamoto and Thomas Dafcik had a tough test at No. 1 doubles, and it would be the Mustangs top pair who came away with the win.

With only five singles players, the Mustangs gave up another point to the Sea Lions meaning PLNU only needed two wins to clinch the match. Dafcik earned the quick win at No. 1 singles to extend his singles winning streak to eight matches. Mark Vasat would earn the clinching point for PLNU with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
