SAN DIEGO – Point Loma hosted the Mustangs of Western New Mexico Friday morning in their first match of the weekend. Coming off of a tough loss to DI Southern Utah University on Tuesday, the Sea Lions were able to bounce back with a sweep of the Mustangs. Playing to clinch, PLNU earned the doubles point and three quick wins in singles to earn the 4-0 win.
All three Sea Lions doubles pairs earned wins on the day.
Shelby Groeneveld and
Michelle Torres made quick work of their match earning the 6-2 win.
Nicole Camaratta and
Taylor McGowan earned the 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point.
Gabi Armas and
Ellie Gamble battled at the No. 1 doubles position closing out play with a 7-5 victory of their own.
With the doubles point in hand, the Sea Lions needed just three more points to clinch the match. Gamble got things rolling for Point Loma in singles play earning the quick 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. McGowan and Camaratta each earned 6-3, 6-0 wins at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively to earn the final two points for PLNU to close the match out with the 4-0 win.
