SURPRISE, Ariz. – In their first meeting since 2014, Point Loma faced the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds in the consolation round of the PacWest Championships Friday afternoon. With a trip to the fifth place match on the line, the Sea Lions were able to come away with the 4-1 win to set up a third meeting with the Golden Eagles of Cal State LA on Saturday.
 
Shelby Groeneveld and Michelle Torres got Point Loma on the board first with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles before the Sunbirds were able to even the doubles score with a win on court one. Taylor McGowan and Nicole Camaratta clinched the doubles point for PLNU with a 6-3 win and Camaratta earned her 10^th doubles win of the season.
 
McGowan and Camaratta would be the first to strike for the Sea Lions in singles play as well. McGowan earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to give PLNU a 2-0 lead while Camaratta finished just behind her winning 6-3, 7-5 on court six, putting Point Loma one win away from clinching the match. Ioanna Lathouri would earn the lone point for FPU taking the win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Shelby Groeneveld clinched the match with a win (4-6, 6-0, 6-2), closing out strong after falling in her first set.
