IRVINE, Calif. – Point Loma faced off with the Eagles of Concordia Irvine on Wednesday afternoon with the Sea Lions looking to avenge a tough loss at home in March. While the match was a tight affair, Point Loma came out on top with a 4-3 win capped by a huge win at No. 3 singles from Tim Soderman.
 
The Sea Lions started the match by securing the important doubles point. Scott Wheeler and Tim Soderman secured the first doubles win, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. The Eagles came back with a win at No. 3 singles to even the doubles score. Thomas Dafcik and Yuki Okamoto secured the doubles point winning 7-5.
 
Point Loma held the momentum heading into singles play but it was the Eagles who would strike first, taking the match at No. 6 singles. Dafcik, coming off of his first singles loss on the season, would take the next point with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court one. After the Sea Lions dropped the match on court four to even the score once again, Okamoto answered with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. CUI evened the match at 3-3 with a win on court five. With match point on the line, Soderman battled through to a third set, and clinched the match for Point Loma winning, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

Wheeler's Words
On getting a big win on the road towards the end of the season: "Our top three singles spots all had big wins for us today. Yuki and Tim especially since they lost to the same opponent the last time we played Concordia. Today's tough road win will give us good experience and confidence heading into our final three away matches."

On Thomas bouncing back with a win: "Thomas played solid today against a very tough opponent. His opponent made him earn every point and Thomas did just that. This was a great bounce back win after his first loss of the season."

On closing out the season strong: "The guys were focused and excited to play this team again and it showed in their level of play. There is a good chance we could play them again at conference and we will be ready."
