POINT LOMA UNABLE TO TOP TRITONS

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Sea Lions traveled to face cross town rival UC San Diego Tuesday afternoon. After dropping the previous match at PLNU early in the season, Point Loma looked to even the season series. The men were able to come away with a couple of wins but ultimately fell 1-6 to the Tritons.
 
UCSD had the jump on Point Loma from the start, taking two quick wins in doubles play on courts one and three. Okamoto and Dafcik fell 3-6 at No. 1 with Penner and Vasat then falling 2-6 at No. 3 giving the Tritons the first point of the match. Scott Wheeler and Tim Soderman were able to earn a win at No. 2 doubles for Point Loma taking their match 7-5 to close out doubles play.
 
Heading into singles, the momentum swayed back in favor of the Tritons. They were able to earn three quick wins on courts three, six, and two, respectively, clinching the match with four total points. The Sea Lions would get one other win from Thomas Dafcik on court one, 6-4, 6-4. Both Wheeler and Vasat would push their matches to three sets but ultimately each match would go in favor of UCSD.

Wheeler's Words
On playing a tough team in UCSD: "The level of competition was a tough test today. We lost multiple close matches that could have gone our way but we needed to play better tennis in the big moments."
 
On Thomas' play: "Thomas had another strong singles win today at #1 singles. His ability to play great tennis at with such high consistency has been extremely valuable to the team."
 
On preparing for APU: "The guys need to have good practices and focus on playing consistent tennis leading up to our match at APU. If we can execute at a higher rate on Saturday then we have a good shot at pulling the upset."

> After dropping his first singles match of the season, Dafcik now has won three straight singles matches.   
> Wheeler and Soderman have now won three straight doubles matches. 
> Point Loma is now 9-24 all-time when facing the Tritons. 
 
Up Next
Point Loma will travel to Azusa for their regular season finale against the APU Cougars on Saturday, April 13. The men will play at 12 p.m. followed immediately by the women.
