IRVINE, Calif. - The Point Loma women's volleyball team made a statement on Wednesday night when they went on the road and swept Concordia to open the 2019 PacWest Conference season.
Â
Madie Fox was unstoppable from her middle blocker position with 14 kills and a .619 hitting percentage. She made her only hitting error of the match early in the first set, before rattling off 14 kills without a mistake. She also added five blocks and was the only student-athlete from either team to reach double-figures in kills.
Â
Courtney Dyer's 17 digs helped lead a PLNU defense that limited the Eagles to a .045 hitting percentage and just 29 kills over the three sets.
Cara Keturakis had another quality all-around match as she chipped in with two blocks, three kills, 15 digs, and 25 assists. Â

Scott's Thoughts
On Madie Fox's performance: "She has been playing with an edge. That is the attitude we have been trying to push the whole team to have, and she is the leader of that right now. It was truly a remarkable offensive and defensive performance."
Â
On finishing off the sweep after going down in the third set: "Concordia is very strong on their serve, and they can go on a run really fast. That happened to us early in the third, but fortunately we were mentally strong enough not to let that rattle us, and we had a response."
Â
On dealing with the crowd on the road: "Concordia always has a great crowd. Their men's volleyball team always shows up, and they do a great job. That makes the volleyball environment a special one compared to other sports."
Â
On the upcoming match against Azusa Pacific: "This is the type of team and the time of the season that we are so focused on our side. We have a lot of growing to do. We did a lot of great things tonight, but we did some not so great things too. We have to find a way to learn from it and get better the next couple days. We will be prepared for them, it is just a matter of being ready to step up to the next challenge."
