SEATTLE - The Point Loma Men's soccer team lost 4-3 in double overtime to Seattle Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 26. The Sea Lions scored three goals in the first half but would be stunned as the Falcons scored four unanswered to take home the victory.
The Sea Lions hit the ground running, taking the lead 3 minutes into the match.
Jorge Navarro recorded his first goal as he booted a 20 yard hook shot to the lower right corner of the goal.
David Achaerandio assisted on the goal. PLNU would stay on the offensive attack, taking four more shots over the next ten minutes. In the 14th minute of play
David Achaerandio would receive a pass from
Hunter Loomis, and shot the ball to the upper right side of the goal to give the Sea Lions a 2-0 lead early on in the first half. The Sea Lion defense played exceptionally well for the next ten minutes as
Connor McEwen would save a shot and quickly get it to the PLNU offense.
Corey Lundeen received the ball just outside the box, he made a few moves to get past two Falcon defenders, he proceeded to take a shot and score from 17 yards out. As the first half went on it seemed as if PLNU would go into halftime with a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, a Sea Lion foul occurred just outside the box and the Falcons took advantage of it. Off the free kick SPU sent the ball across the box, and the ball found the head of a Falcon player that would find the back of the net to cut the deficient to 3-1.
The Falcons carried that momentum into the second half. Within the first five minutes of the half McEwen and the Sea Lion defense were facing a lot of pressure as the Falcons had two shots and a corner opportunity. Both teams would trade shots and possessions for the next couple of minutes. In the 58th minute the game changed.
Jacob Moreno received his second yellow card of the match, turning it into a red card and disqualifying him from the match. From that point forward the Sea Lions would play down a man. The Falcons would take full advantage of being up a player. In the 77th minute the Falcons scored cutting the lead in half to make it 3-2. The Sea Lions could not get any offensive momentum going which hurt them down the stretch. In the 87th minute the Falcons would tie up the game. Alex Meija of SPU rebounded a shot of the crossbar and beat McEwen on the put back.
PLNU would hold their own still playing a man down not allowing a shot in the first overtime period. Neither team got much going in the first overtime. The teams would remained tied 3-3. It did not take long for SPU to end the match. In the second overtime period the Falcons shot from from 19 yards out that McEwen got a piece of, but would not be enough from stopping the ball from finding the back of the net. The Sea Lions would be stunned, and ending up losing 4-3 in double overtime.

Wolf's Words
On early scoring chances "Jorge had a really nice goal to get us going. We were really bright in the first half, and created a lot of chances."
On playing down a man: "That really hurt us, we were just trying to hang on for a result as the match continued, but it got away from us. They (SPU) are a really direct team and that got to us."
On preparing for Saturday's match: "First of all we have to rest up, that's very important. We need to come back mentally ready as well."
