POINT LOMA RALLIES LATE TO AVOID UPSET VS. HAWKS

OAKLAND - After dropping the first two sets, the Point Loma volleyball team came from behind on the road to earn the victory at Holy Names in a PacWest Conference match.
 
Point Loma hit under .136 in each of the first two sets as Holy Names jumped out to the 2-0 lead by edging PLNU 27-25 and 26-24. The Sea Lions even started behind in the third set, before eventually storming back for the win.
 
Madie Fox had a match-high 20 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. She had just two errors in 45 swings, and also a team-best four blocks. Jaime Cymbaluk ended the match with 17 kills and was a big part of the comeback. When PLNU dropped the second set, Cymbaluk had just three kills to go along with four errors, but she turned it around to post 14 kills and just one error in the final three sets.
 
The comeback trail really started with the match tied 19-19 in the third set. The Sea Lions closed out the set on a 5-1 run, and Fox finished it off with back-to-back kills. In the fourth set Point Loma never trailed. They got out to a 9-4 lead and were up 19-13 before finishing the set with the 25-16 win. In the final set, HNU jumped out to an 8-5 lead before the Sea Lions scored 10 straight points behind Flavia Virgili's serve to win the set and close out the match.
 
Keturakis had 49 assists in the match, and Courtney Dyer led all student-athletes with a career-high 35 digs. Sierra Allen paced the Hawks with 18 kills.

PacWest Implications
The Sea Lions are now in fourth place in the PacWest standings trailing only Biola (4-0), Azusa Pacific (3-0) and Chaminade (3-0). Holy Names sits in 10th with a 1-4 record in PacWest play.

On the match: "Our competitive spirit did not show up to this match, but I'm proud of our resilience. On the weekend, we got two wins, which was the goal. Now it's time to get back to training."
