Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

BRONCOS BEST THE SEA LIONS IN THE SEASON OPENER

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's soccer team dropped its 2019 season opener to Cal Poly Pomona 2-0, on Thursday, Sept. 5.

Cal Poly Pomona took the lead in the 20th minute on an unassisted goal by Amanda Duran. After the ball popped out of a scrum, she was able to collect a ball on the left side and fire it over the keeper for the lead.

PLNU had multiple looks to get the equalizer, and even had three more corner kicks than the Broncos (5-2), but it could not find a way to break through on CPP's defense all match. Cal Poly Pomona would put the game away with an insurance goal in the 88th minute.

Emma Hinson made five saves for the Sea Lions, and Sydney Williams made two while earning the shutout.

Words from Coach Kiely
On Cal Poly Pomona's goals: "We left some players unmarked, and they were able to get away from our defense and create an opportunity for themselves. They shouldn't have been able to do that, but those were good finishes."

On what PLNU can learn from today's result: "I think we can take a lot from today. Different opponents expose different things we need to work on. We also talked a lot about playing with a little more pride."

Mone on the match: "This match was a bit of a tale of two halves. We didn't show up and weren't sharp to start, and they got the first goal. In the second half we were sharper, and we had opportunities. We had plenty of opportunities, and we are going to have to finish."
