Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

LOOMIS' LATE GOAL SURGES SEA LIONS TO VICTORY

SAN DIEGO - Hunter Loomis led the Point Loma men's soccer team to a victory with two goals as the Sea Lions went on the road and defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-1  on Saturday, Sept 7.

Point Loma came out aggressively on the offensive side of the ball recording four corner kicks and three shots in the first five minutes of action. PLNU stayed attacking, which eventually paid off in the 16th minute when Hunter Loomis netted his first goal on a diving header to give the Sea Lions a 1-0 lead early in the game. The goal was assisted by Teague Anderson. Connor McEwen made two saves in the first half to preserve the lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime Point Loma and Dominguez Hills traded shots and fouls for most of the second half. PLNU had two shots on goal but could not squeak one past the keeper. In the 75th minute Dominguez Hills scored tying the game at 1-1.

For the next eight minutes the Sea Lions and Toros traded possessions, but could not find any separation on the offensive side of the ball. The game looked as if it was going to head into overtime until Hunter Loomis received a pass from Patrice Glaser, and beat the Toro keeper on a kick outside the box to give the Sea Lions a 2-1 lead with seven minutes to play. The Sea Lions held onto the lead until the final whistle to win the match 2-1.

Wolf's Words
On the road win and the rivalry: "It was a tough game, and they gave us everything we could ask for. It was a dead-even game. The chances were limited for both teams, and we are feeling really, really good for coming out of there with a win."

On Hunter Loomis' goals: "We left Tim Siegfried and David Achaerandio out of the starting lineup, and Hunter definitely took advance of it. He had a great diving header on the first goal, and he hammered in the second one for the game-winner. He had a good performance."

On the team earning full results on the road: "The guys actually reacted really well when Dominguez tied the match at 1-1. They picked up their game at that point, and to turn around and create a good chance was massive. The guys showed character, and the fact that we found a way to win in regulation was huge."
