POINT LOMA CAN'T SLOW DOWN FRESNO PACIFIC

SAN DIEGO – Fresno Pacific outscored the Point Loma women's basketball team 59-38 in the second half to earn a 103-78 win in Golden Gym on Saturday, Feb. 15.
 
Jessica Malazarte led Fresno Pacific with 33 points. She shot 12-of-20 from the field, including going 6-of-10 from three-point range while dishing out six assists. Felicia Dourva added a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Haylee Saurette came off the bench and scored 15 points (6-of-9 shooting) to lead five Sea Lions in double-figures. Onjalise Carley-Hilliard added 14 points, and Cara Liggins, Kennedi Byram and Carol Schroeder each chipped in with 12.
 
However, the offense was not the Sea Lions' issue in this game. FPU scored 44 points in the first half and nearly matched that in the third quarter alone with 36 points. The Sunbirds would finish the game shooting .514 percent, including .579 percent in the second half. Fresno Pacific also had just eight turnovers in the game.

PacWest Implications
The win moves Fresno Pacific and Point Loma for fifth place in the PacWest standings. The teams are competing to earn one of the six spots in the upcoming PacWest Conference Tournament (Mar. 5-7). By virtue of their two head-to-head wins, FPU holds the tiebreaker in postseason seedings over the Sea Lions.
 
The Turning Point
In the third quarter, Fresno Pacific outscored PLNU 36-19. This took the four-point halftime deficit to 21 points (80-59) before the final period of play.
 
News and Notes
> The 103 points are the most the Sea Lions have allowed all season (previous 89 against Concordia, Jan. 18)
> Jessica Malazarte averaged 15.3 ppg before scoring a career-high 33 points tonight
> Before tonight, PLNU had never allowed 100 points in the coach Faulkner era
> This was Fresno Pacific first win over PLNU in Golden Gym since January 2005
 
Next Games
Point Loma will play its final three home games of the season next week. They will host No. 7 Hawaii Pacific on Monday (Feb. 17), Holy Names on Thursday (Feb. 20) and close out their home schedule against Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday (Feb. 22).
