SAN DIEGO – No. 7 Hawaii Pacific hit 21 3-pointers to earn a 98-83 win over the Point Loma women's basketball team on Monday, Feb. 17.
The Sharks took 53 of their 79 shots from behind the arc and outscored PLNU by 45 points from deep. Starr Rivera led six Hawaii Pacific student-athletes in double-figures with 26 points. She went 8-of-14 from long range and added six assists. Avery Cargill came off the bench to post 20 points.
Onjalise Carley-Hilliard recorded her second double-double of the season with 19 points and a season-best 11 rebounds.
Cara Liggins added 24 points and nine rebounds.
Haylee Saurette chipped in with 17 points off the bench and
Alix Henderson recorded a career-high seven assists.
Point Loma came out with good energy in the game and led 23-18 after the first quarter. HPU would tie the game at 44-44 at the half. The teams traded baskets until it was 61-60 in favor of HPU, the Sharks would then go on a 10-2 run and led 75-67 at the end of the third. Point Loma would cut the deficit to seven (78-71) early in the fourth quarter, but HPU answered with a 6-0 spurt and the Sea Lions would never get it back to single-digits the rest of the game.

PacWest Implications
The loss drops PLNU to sixth in the PacWest standings, a half-game behind Fresno Pacific for fifth. The victory keeps Hawaii Pacific undefeated in PacWest play at 19-0.
The Turning Point
The 10-2 run in the middle of the third quarter created some breathing room for the Sharks and put pressure on the Sea Lions. Hawaii Pacific also hit eight of its 21 3-pointers in the quarter to score 31 points.
