SAN DIEGO -
Brock Mackenzie hit five 3-pointers and scored 26 points to help lead the No. 17 Point Loma men's basketball team to a 91-64 win over Hawaii Pacific. (Feb. 17)
Â
The sophomore guard went 10-of-19 from the field and 5-of-10 from behind the arc to pace four Sea Lions in double-figures.
Darnell Robateau registered 16 points to go along with six rebounds and eight assists.
Sterling Somers added 15 points and eight rebounds, while
Kaden Anderson chipped in with 10 points and seven boards. The starters for Point Loma would outscore the Sharks' starters 72-33, as Ronald Blain was the only starter for HPU in double-figures (23 points).
Â
Point Loma started the game slow and even trailed for a portion of the first half, before going on a 14-3 run to take a 38-33 lead into halftime. HPU kept the game close to start the second half, but again Point Loma found a run to extend their lead. In a five-minute span starting at the 17-minute mark, PLNU outscored Hawaii Pacific 14-2 to push their advantage to 57-40. The Sharks would never get closer than 14 points the rest of the way. PLNU would limit the Sharks to just .345 percent shooting in the second half, while forcing 11 turnovers.Â

PacWest Implications
The win moves PLNU a half-game up on Concordia (13-4 PacWest) for second place in the PacWest standings. PLNU has four games left in its regular season while Concordia has five, including its season-finale against Azusa Pacific. The loss was the sixth straight for Hawaii Pacific as they fall into a tie for eighth.
Â
Turning Point
The way the Sea Lions opened the second half was the difference in the game. To that point, it looked like HPU believed they could hang in the game, but the 14-2 run by PLNU took their momentum and put it all on the Sea Lions' side.
