IRVINE, Calif. – The Point Loma women's tennis team secured a huge road victory over Concordia on Wednesday, Feb. 19 defeating the Eagles 5-2.
Early in the season, the Sea Lions looked strong in doubles play but today could not find their groove. Gabbi Armas and
Angelique Friedrich dropped their match 2-6.
Faith Pearson and
Rachel Whittington would pick up the Sea Lions and win their set 6-3. With the all-important third set yet to finish the team would cheer on
Ellie Gamble and
Taylor McGowan in hopes to secure the first point of the match. Unfortunately, the two would fall 2-6 and Concordia would take the doubles point, leading 1-0 headed to singles play.
The first two matches in singles play went in the Sea Lions favor as
Rachel Whittington defeated her opponent 6-2 and 7-5 to even the score at 1-1. Gabbi Armas would make quick work of her opponent winning 6-4 and 6-2 giving the Sea Lions their first lead of the day. The Eagles would seize the tie the match up after
Ellie Gamble fell 3-6 and 3-6. With three matches yet to finish the Sea Lions looked to keep momentum on their side.
Angelique Friedrich won a tough match 7-5 and 6-4 to secure the third Sea Lion victory. With two sets to go the Sea Lions needed one more win.
Taylor McGowan would be the Sea Lion to get the victory and secure the win for the Sea Lions. McGowan defeated her opponent 6-3 and 6-2.
