CARSON, Calif. – Brett O'Toole's home run proved to be the difference as Point Loma defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-1 on Friday, Feb. 7.
After a quiet first inning by both teams,
Brett O'Toole put the Sea Lions ahead with a two-out, two-run home run to leftfield.
Baxter Halligan led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and then stealing second. After the next two Sea Lion hitters were retired, O'Toole dug in. He took the first two pitches before sending a ball over the left-field fence and giving PLNU an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the second, the Toros would bring home a run to cut the PLNU lead in half. After striking out the first batter of the inning, Cal State Dominguez Hills recorded back-to-back hits putting runners at the corners with one out. A sacrifice fly by Justin Morris brought home the lone Toro run on the day.
Zack Noll dominated in his second start of the season going seven innings, allowing one run and striking out nine.
Steven Elliott was just as good in relief pitching two innings, allowing only one baserunner. Noll was awarded the win, his first of the season while Elliott recorded his first save of the season.
