Turning Point
NNU found a little offensive rhythm to start the second half and were able to cut the Sea Lions' lead to 17. PLNU then went on a 13-1 run, pushing their lead to 29 points and Nighthawks never got closer than 23 points the rest of the way.
Words from coach Matt Logie
On the chance to be back on the court: "I can't even explain all the emotions for our guys with what they've been through with 10 months off. Last season ended on such a high note and the anticipation of going to the NCAA Tournament, and then just nothing. I could not be more proud of the way they handled themselves during that time. They stayed connected and locked in on the process of getting better and preparing for when the lights would come back on, and it showed tonight. I am really proud of them. When you have something taken away from you it changes your perspective a little bit. The gratitude myself, our staff and players felt for this opportunity to come out and represent Point Loma tonight was just incredible."
On the offensive performance: "Our guys did a really nice job of taking what we worked on throughout the fall training period with all the concepts and the habits we had been installing. We only really had 13 practices to work on our defense because of the protocols in place, so I was proud of the way they took care of the basketball. We have 18 assists and just 13 turnovers. Our activity on the defensive end allowed us to hold their shooting down and really contain what had been an explosive offense. Any time you can get five guys in double-figures it means they are sharing the ball and that is a staple of how we play, and they did a great job of that tonight."
On the freshmen,
Luke Haupt and
Brian Goracke: "Both Luke and Brian are guys that we felt could make an immediate impact on our program. They've done that in practice and earned the opportunity to be on the floor."
On the bench: "I thought all our bench guys did a really good job of coming in and being who they are. Brian took good shots and crashed the offensive glass.
Josh Caston was active, had some steals, took care of the ball and scored a little bit.
Noah Stapes has been so steady as a veteran with his leadership and shot-making. We've got a tremendous group of guys that I am very excited for."
On Mackenzie's performance: "Brock is a special player. He puts the time in to be great. He is very consistent and coachable. He has taken this time off to hone his craft and continue to stay confident. It is no surprise that he was able to hit the ground running."
