FIVE DIFFERENT SCORERS COMPLETE PERFECT HOMESTAND

PLNU BLANKS HNU 5-0

SAN DIEGO---Five different players scored as the Point Loma Sea Lions (9-0-1 overall, 5-0-0 PacWest) completed their four-match home stand by blanking the Holy Names Hawks (0-12 overall, 0-4 PacWest) 5-0 Saturday afternoon on the PLNU Soccer Field.

While it was a successful stretch of matches by every standard, an early goal helped check all the boxes, giving the Sea Lions their first goal in the first half of the four matches. There would be plenty more on Saturday.

"Certainly when you put one away early, that can get you rolling." Point Loma Head Coach Kristi Kiely responded after the match. "We had three things we wanted to get better at today and I thought we did those."

Off a short corner, Mara Sovde delivered a cross to the far post that Lauren O'Malley headed toward goal, pressing the Holy Names keeper into action. After the initial save redirected towards the same corner of the set piece, Naomi Ellis ripped the shot into the open net to give the Sea Lions their much sought after first half lead.

The Sea Lions, as they have throughout their home stand, dominated possession throughout the match and created many opportunities throughout. On Saturday afternoon, they turned that equation in to goals.

"They've had courage and willingness to go at people and make stuff happen." Kiely said in response to how the Sea Lions have been able to establish their chances.

In the 25th minute, Allison Pepper slipped behind the defense on a through ball from Courtney Kessler. Pepper touched the ball past a diving Hawk's keeper that creeped across the goal line to improve the PLNU lead to 2-0.

Not two minutes later, Bethany Arabe slipped behind the defense again and dribbled nearly half the field into the box before sliding her shot past the keeper for a 3-0 advantage.

In the 35th minute, Arabe navigated the right flank, weaving through traffic before crossing to the far post for Hailey Clifford. Clifford celebrated her birthday by ripping the shot into the net to widen the lead to 4-0.

"When Bethany got on the field, her tone changed it for us." Kiely responded of her forward. "She attacked aggressively and did a really good job today.
Point Loma maintained the advantage through the half and the score line held throughout the second half.

The Sea Lion's halftime changes included swapping keeper Emma Hinson, after a clean 45 minutes, for Rachel Fong in net.

Holy Names created some chances that were denied by Fong allowing the Point Loma offense to attack once more.

In the 84th minute, Grace Wittenberg beat a couple of defenders down the right side before delivering a laser of a pass, square across the goal that found the boot of Julia Jobst who tacked on the second half score to give Point Loma its 5-0 margin.

Point Loma concludes its four-match home stand by extending its PacWest unbeaten streak to 32 consecutive matches.

The home stand for Point Loma was highlighted as much by what didn't happen as what did. The Sea Lions did not concede a goal over 360 minutes at the PLNU Soccer Field.

"There's a tremendous amount of pressure on our backs to makes sure they are good on the ball, which they are." Kiely said.

The Sea Lions will hit the road for four matches, beginning with three in Hawaii over the next two weeks. They will return to the mainland to play Azusa Pacific on the road before concluding the regular season against Concordia at home on Thursday, November 11th for Senior Day.
