LATE RUN RUINS FIERCE CONTEST IN IRVINE

IRVINE, CALIF- Massive momentum swings ultimately upended the Point Loma Sea Lions (8-6 overall, 4-2 PacWest) in a five-set loss to the Concordia Eagles (8-3 overall, 3-1 PacWest) Saturday night.

Efficient first and fourth sets, poised the Sea Lions for success heading into the fifth set as Point Loma hit over .400 in each to force a final set.

Libero Courtney Dyer's service run staked PLNU to an 8-1 advantage in the fifth before Concordia took advantage of the biggest momentum swing of the night, closing out the match on a 14-2 run to steal the match.

"It was a game of momentum and it just kept shifting back and forth," Point Loma Head Coach Jonathan Scott said after the match. "(The biggest challenge is) staying in the moment. I think we got ahead of ourselves."

Sophomore middle blocker Anna Massari led the attack with 15 kills and a hitting percentage just under .300 while outside hitter Torina Hommes delivered 11 kills with just one error.

The Sea Lions began at a stellar rate in the first set with 12 kills and an attack percentage above .400.

As errors piled up in sets two and three, the Sea Lions responded with 16 kills in the fourth set to force the 15-point stanza.

Dyer's service run was the longest run of the night for Point Loma, but Concordia swiftly responded with their best run of the season to close out the match.

Point Loma will have a few days off before continuing the road trip Friday at the Academy of Art. They wrap up the three-game road swing the next day at Fresno Pacific.
