BELMONT, Calif---Nothing like a little team bonding on the long leg of the trip to Northern California to get the Point Loma Sea Lions (9-6 overall, 5-2 PacWest) back on the win column, as the Sea Lions dispatched the Academy of Art Urban Knights (5-11 overall, 2-6 PacWest) in straight sets Friday night.
With contributions from all over the roster, the Sea Lions won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-14.
Point Loma's offense improved with each set, hitting .227 by the third to close out the match with a narrow 26-24 victory.
Anna Massari led the Sea Lion's attack with 14 kills and a .326% on the attack while
Torina Hommes added nine kills.
"We had good drive (tonight)," Point Loma Head Coach
Jonathan Scott said. "It was especially nice to have contributions from so many players in different roles."
It was the most efficient night for the Sea Lions in two weeks, as they committed just 16 errors on 117 attacks.
Point Loma's key quality though, was just not letting the ball hit the floor as
Courtney Dyer picked up 18 digs and was supported by
Bailey Williams 11 digs. Jordan Moriarty and
Lauren Phillips combined for 14 more.
The Sea Lions held ArtU to a mild .081% offensively, the second lowest percentage by an opponent this season and best on the road. Point Loma saw little response from the Urban Knights outside of Katherine Von Kraut, who hit .500% for the night and tied Massari for a match high 14 kills.
Phillips delivered 34 assists on the evening as well.
Point Loma will now make the journey to Central California and complete the road trip against the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds Saturday at 2:00pm.
