POINT LOMA DROPS FIRST MATCH OF HAWAII TRIP

WAIPAHU, Hawaii---It took 42 days and a trip that sent them over 2,500 miles west, but the Point Loma Sea Lions (7-3-1 overall, 4-1-0 PacWest) undefeated streak finally came to an end in a 2-1 defeat by the Hawaii Pacific Sharks (4-5-2 overall, 2-1-2 PacWest) Friday night.

The Sharks seized every window of opportunity that they could against the red-hot Sea Lions, only allowing the match to be tied for 15 of the 90 minutes.
Hawaii Pacific found the net early when Gerrit Arzberger put the Sharks ahead 1-0 in the 10th minute.

Point Loma would hold the edge offensively throughout much of the rest of the match, outshooting HPU 16-12 but the Sharks created a few more chances and took five corners to the Sea Lion's three.

Point Loma finally broke through in the 74th minute when Townsend Meyer found the top corner to tie the match at one.

But the Sharks came right back five minutes later as Jourdan Furukawa chipped the ball inside the far post from the left side of the box to lift Hawaii Pacific back on top with a 2-1 advantage.

Corey Lundeen led the Sea Lions with five shots but HPU keeper Jeremy Zielinski was up to the task, completing seven saves for the Sharks.

Point Loma will have two days to recoup before heading to Honolulu to play Monday against Chaminade at 3:30pm PT.
