MASSARI, DYER HELP SEA LIONS GROUND HAWKS

OAKLAND, Calif---It just kept getting better in the bay as the Point Loma Sea Lions (11-7 overall, 7-3 PacWest) improved their hitting percentage in every set and the defense did not let the ball touch the floor en route to a straight-set victory , grounding the host Holy Names Hawks (5-15 overall, 2-10 PacWest) Friday night.

Anna Massari picked up 7 of her match-high 13 kills in the first set and hit .545 for the night while Courtney Dyer led the defensive effort with 23 while Bailey Williams and Maggie Wolf each added double-digit digs.

"The rhythm was good tonight." Point Loma Head Coach Jonathan Scott said of his team's effort. "Our defense was great and Anna had one of those nights."

Point Loma overcame their messiest set in the first, committing 6 errors, and still pulled out the frame 25-21, thanks in large part to the defense.

"All around, the defense was the best part," Scott said. "And that all started with Courtney."

While Dyer and the defense unit stifled the Hawk's offense, holding Holy Names under .100 in each set and for the night, the offense improved in each stanza.

After Massari's strong opening set, Point Loma rode out the final two sets delivering, 24 kills while committing just three errors and took the frames 25-16 and 25-17.

Torina Hommes added 8 kills and Alexis Soncrant delivered 5 while Maddie Fox added all four of hers in the last two sets.

Massari and Fox also contributed to the stellar defense, combining for 12 blocks on the night.

Point Loma will have little time to rest as the wrap up their final trip to Northern California with a 12:00pm start against Dominican University in San Rafael on Saturday.
