SAN MARCOS, Calif---Early foul trouble, poor shooting from three, and a hungry opponent turned into a 90-52 loss for the Point Loma Sea Lions (2-2 overall) in the first true road contest against the San Marcos Cougars (4-0 overall) Saturday night.
While foul trouble set back the Sea Lions early, a troublesome 2-24 from three-point territory prevented them from ever clicking.
The Sea Lions were within one at 21-20 midway through the first half, but a 14-2 run for San Marcos opened up the game.
San Marcos held their grip on the game by not turning the ball over at all in the 2
nd half and knocking down nine total threes.
Point Loma was also whistled for nearly twice as many fouls as San Marcos (18-10) and that played out at the free-throw line where San Marcos was 19-22 at the stripe. Point Loma was just 2-4 from the free-throw line.
Hugh Baxter led Point Loma with 17 points ,
Myles Franklin added 13 and
Trey Anderson had 8 off the bench.
Point Loma will turn around on Monday for a home game against San Diego Christian at 7:30pm inside Golden Gymnasium.
