BELLINGHAM, Wash.---What started as a slow night from the field, never picked up in the Point Loma Sea Lions (3-3 overall) 74-67 loss to the Western Washington Vikings (3-2 overall) inside Carver Gym Friday night.
Point Loma struggled from the field at the beginning of the game, shooting just 38% from the field and only 3-12 from beyond the arc. But the Sea Lions combated that by dominating the turnover battle. Point Loma forced 11 turnovers and gave it away just twice in the half.
Both teams struggled from three after that. After Western Washington hit eight 3's in the first half, Point Loma held them without a three-pointer for the entire 2
nd half.
But the Sea Lions were just 6-27 from three and despite some good looks late, could not find their rhythm from deep.
Brian Goracke got a friendly roll with 36 seconds left to make it a four point game but free-throws for the Vikings pushed the difference to seven.
Brock Mackenzie led the Sea Lions with a game-high 21 points. Goracke and
Luke Haupt each added 12 points for Point Loma.
Hugh Baxter snagged a game-high 11 rebounds and chipped in 8 points.
Point Loma will look to bounce back Saturday night when they take on Seattle Pacific University at 7:00pm in Seattle.
