SAN DIEGO---Snapping a three-game losing streak, the Point Loma Sea Lions (7-5 overall, 2-3 PacWest) broke out in a big way, racking up a 90-39 non-conference victory over the San Diego Christian Hawks (5-10 overall, 2-4 GSAC) Monday morning inside Golden Gymnasium.
The Sea Lions delivered their biggest offensive of the Charity Elliott era, with 90 points, while posting their best shooting percentage since the season opener.
Point Loma delivered a blistering pace thanks to the outside shot. Haylee Saurette sparked the offense but it was Izzy Turk that led the way in the first half. The senior guard hit 2 of 3 three-pointers and snagged four rebounds, finishing the half with a game leading 12 points.
Point Loma was a scorching 63% from the field in the first quarter, including four of those three's. They shot 57% from the field in the half, and went a perfect 8-8 at the stripe.
The bench accounted for nearly half of the offense in the first half, scoring 25 of the team's 54 points.
The Sea Lions dominated the paint 22-10 and turned 9 Hawk turnovers into 12 points.
Point Loma continued to exert their advantages in the second half to widen the margin.
All 12 Sea Lions that played scored at least one field goal, highlighted by four players in double figures.
Izzy Turk and Cara Liggins tied for the team lead with 12 points apiece. Haylee Saurette and Annika Thayer each added ten.
Turk finished the game with a double-double, snagging 10 rebounds.
Point Loma will head into the winter break above .500 at 7-5 before returning to action on January 1st in Irvine against PacWest rival Concordia. The Sea Lions won't return to Golden Gymnasium until January 15th when they host Biola in the Welcome Back Game at 2:00pm.
