SCALZO'S MULTI-GOAL GAME PROPELS PLNU TO VICTORY

Box Score

SAN DIEGO –
The Sea Lions improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2011 behind a two-goal game from Parker Scalzo. PLNU fell behind for the first time this season, but should no quit and scored three unanswered goals to seal their third victory of the season.

Midway through the first half, after a Corey Lundeen foul just outside the 18-yard box, Concordia set up for a free-kick. Elijah Amadin took the free-kick and shot it on goal and beat the keeper, Seth Ketterer. The goal put the Eagles up 1-0. After the Concordia goal in the 24th minute, the Sea Lion defense held strong and allowed just one more shot on goal the rest of the game.

PLNU responded with a goal of their own in the first half, ten minutes after the CUI goal. Parker Scalzo fired a shot that was blocked, collected his rebound, and beat the keeper to the bottom right side of the net to tie the game 1-1. The momentum shifted and the Sea Lions were eager to get another goal before the half. Corey Lundeen and Teague Anderson each attempted a shot but would miss wide right.
The second half started with a bang for the Sea Lions. Three minutes into the half the Sea Lions were awarded a corner kick. Tim Siegfried took the short corner from Jona Osterling, sent across to the back post of the goal where the ball found the head of Parker Scalzo who headed the ball to the back of the net and recorded this third career multi-goal game.

In the 72nd minute Point Loma was rewarded another corner and capitalized once again. The corner was crossed to the near post where it got kicked around until it found the left-foot of Timmy Mooring who would beat the keeper to the bottom left side of the net. The PLNU defense fought off any chances the Eagles might have had and held on to win 3-1.

Words from the student-athletes

Wolfs's words
On the team's performance: "Before the game, I was hoping we could create chances against them, and I think we hit our goal in creating things. I thought the boys did great."

On Jacob Moreno's impact on the program: "J-Mo has been around, feels like he and Eisenberg have been around forever since they started their freshman year. It feels like they have played as many games as anyone at Point Loma. Jacob had a great career and our program is at a new level because of guys like him. I'm so appreciative of him and I know he's got a big future ahead of him."

On the comeback win: "I thought we were pretty good up until then and then we concede a goal. Our guys stuck with it and found a way to connect on one. I wasn't worried even down one, because I thought we were creating chances and we looked dangerous on the day. As long as you look dangerous and create chances you take the game for what it is."
