SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma men's tennis team had a tough test ahead of them in the season opener. The Sea Lions hosted No. 14 ranked Concordia and battled with them but ultimately fell short losing the match 4-1.
The match opened up with doubles play which saw Concordia take the point winning two of three matchups.
Tyler Davis and
Yuki Okamoto lost their game 3-6 which put PLNU behind early. Alejandro Castenada and
Tales Silva picked up a big win in their game defeating the duo of Patrick Wong and Jan Simon 6-2. The final match went to the Eagles as
Jasdeep Paintal and
Lukas Schuster fell 4-6. Headed into singles Concordia lead PLNU 1-0.
The Sea Lions split the first two games in singles play.
Tyler Davis, playing in the No. 1 position fell to his opponent Yassine Smiej, but
David Strassburger picked up a crucial point for the Sea Lions after defeating his opponent. The Sea Lions were down 2-1 and looking to regain the momentum. Unfortunately, Concordia had too much power and won the final two games winning the match 4-1.
