SAN DIEGO - Freshman Kourtney Kessler scored both goals to help the Point Loma women's soccer team prevail over Concordia 2-1. (Feb. 17)
 
The first came in the 23rd minute following a Sea Lions' corner kick. The ball was played to the far side of the goal and Ashlee Watkins redirected it back to Kessler on the right side of the six-yard box and she headed it into the net.
 
The score remained 1-0 through halftime until Concordia's Marianna Maldonado delivered the equalizer on a broken play in the 60th minute.
 
The game would not remain tied long, however, as Kessler and the Sea Lions answered less than a minute later. Bethany Arabe took the ball down the line and found Kessler streaking toward the goal. Her first shot was denied by the defense but she stuck with the play and worked her way around the keeper to find space to poke the ball into the net.
 
Point Loma's defense faced one more challenge with 0:40 remaining. CUI's Jadenn Carrillo found space for a good look straight away on goal, but PLNU's goalie, Emma Hinson, was there to punch the ball over the net, ending the threat and securing Point Loma the victory.

Turning Point
The second goal by Kessler not only gave the Sea Lions back the lead, but it was also a counter punch to the Eagles who had just worked so hard to earn their first goal.
