O'TOOLE WALKS THE SEA LIONS OFF, AGAIN

Box Score Game 1 | Box Score Game 2 | Walk-off hit

SAN DIEGO –
The Point Loma baseball team swept its doubleheader against Biola on Friday, March 26 with scores of 4-3 and 3-0. Brett O'Toole once again came through in the clutch with a walk-off single to win game one. Nathan Garkow continued his dominance on the mound in game two recording a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings pitched.

Game one: Point Loma got out to an early lead but Biola kept chipping away and eventually tied it up in the top of the eighth inning. Brett O'Toole, once again, came through in a tie game and runners in scoring position as he recorded his second walk-off hit of the season.

Point Loma jumped on the Eagles early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Scott Anderson was able to single through the right side with two outs and the bases loaded to point the Sea Lions up early. The Eagles got a run back in the top of the second after Anthony Robert Cruz hit a solo home run.

Anderson again came through with two outs in the third inning. After a Brett O'Toole double, Anderson, singled to left field that brought O'Toole in to score and extend the PLNU lead 3-1.
Biola was able to get one run back in the sixth and then tied the game up in the eighth. After recording the first out of the inning the next two batters proceeded to reach base for Biola. The next hitter bounced into a fielder choice but the two base runners were able to advance to second and third. Biola pushed a run across after a ball squirted away from Easton Waterman and the runner on third was able to score.

After a shutdown top of the ninth inning Point Loma looked for another walk-off victory. Otto Kemp led off with a walk and Baxter Halligan followed that up with a single to center field. After a wild pitch advanced each of them 90 feet both were in scoring position. On a 1-2 count with the infield in, Brett O'Toole was able to smash a ball up the middle and walk-off the Eagles 4-3.

Game two: Nathan Garkow continued his dominance on the mound. Entering the game with a 0.79 ERA it only went down after a seven-inning complete-game shutout.

The first three innings of game two were dominated by the pitchers. Both allowed just one hit over the three innings. After Garkow retired the side in order PLNU was able to push a run across in the bottom of the fourth, again scoring with two outs. Brett O'Toole and Scott Anderson both reached base to start the inning. After the next two hitters were retired, Michael Pineiro was able to extend the inning with a six-pitch walk, bringing up Easton Waterman. Waterman was also able to draw a walk which pushed Anderson across to score. Michael Whiteside then flew out to end the inning.

Point Loma tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Sea Lions took advantage of throwing error by the Eagles and extended their lead to 3-0.

Garkow shutdown the Eagle hitters in the seventh striking out two and retiring the other one on a caught stealing. The Sea Lions won the game 3-0.
