IRVINE, Calif. – The Point Loma women's tennis team was looking for their third win on the week as they traveled to Irvine to take on No. 23 ranked Concordia. Unfortunately, they were unable to overcome an early deficit and lost the match 4-1.
The match started with doubles play and Point Loma got the early advantage after
Rachel Whittington and
Thelma Sepulveda won their match in the No. 3 position 6-2. Point Loma was unable to capitalize on the early momentum as Concordia stormed back and won in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to take the doubles point.
Headed to singles play down 1-0, Point Loma looked to answer right back.
Rachel Whittington would tie the match up 1-1 after defeating her opponent 6-3 and 6-3. After tying the game up Point Loma could not find a way to win another match. Concordia won the next three matches to clinch the victory and win the match 4-1.
Rebekah Anderson defeated
Thelma Sepulveda in straight sets in the No. 2 position. Camila Tumosa and
Faith Pearson battled in the No. 3 position but the match ultimately went to Tumosa. The clinching point for the Eagles came in the No. 1 position after Ghazal Pakbated defeated
Angelique Friedrich in three sets.
