SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's tennis team defeated their second Division I opponent of the season as they flew past the Portland Pilots, winning the match 4-2.
Point Loma jumped out to an early lead as they gained the edge in doubles play.
Rachel Whittington and
Thelma Sepulveda made quick work of their opponents winning their match 6-1. The Pilots won in the No. 2 position but,
Gabi Armas and
Angelique Friedrich came up clutch winning their match 6-4 and giving PLNU the 1-0 lead headed into singles play.
Portland quickly tied the match back up after a victory in the No. 1 position. Just as the momentum started to turn toward the Pilots the Sea Lions snagged it right back. Sepulveda and Whittington each pulled out a victory to give PLNU a 3-1 lead. The Pilots answered right back to cut the Point Loma lead to 3-2 after winning in the No. 3 position.
Point Loma ultimately clinched the match after
Gabi Armas defeated her opponent in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, and 6-4. The win gave Point Loma their second victory over a Division I opponent this season.
