SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's tennis team opened its game against an NCAA Division I opponent with a win in doubles to take the early lead, but UC Davis was able to come back in singles to win the match 4-2. (Mar. 6)
Â
Doubles play went fast as
Tales Silva and
Alejandro Castaneda won 6-4 on court 2 right after UC Davis was able to pick up a win on court 1. The doubles point all came down to court 3, and Jasdeep and
David Strassburger handled the pressure to earn the 7-5 win after breaking the Aggies' serve to win the decisive game of their match and put Point Loma up 1-0.
Â
UCD took the first three points in singles before Silva cut the deficit to one with a straight-set 6-4 and 6-4 win on court 2. The Sea Lions were still alive as
Yuki Okamoto was heading to the third set, but Mitchell Davis was able to just edge
Lukas Schuster, 7-6, in the second set to grab the clinching point for the Aggies.
