IRVINE, Calif. – The Point Loma men's tennis team was unable to pull off the upset against the No. 16 ranked Concordia Eagles today (Apr. 12).

Point Loma gathered the early edge in doubles play when Jasdeep Paintal and David Strassburger defeated their opponents 6-3. The Eagles fought back though picking up a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 position to even the doubles match. Alejandro Castaneda and Lukas Schuster gave it all they had but came up just short losing 7-5. The doubles point would go to the Eagles.

The Eagles carried that momentum into singles play. Yuki Okamoto challenged Patrick Wong but ultimately fell in the No. 2 position. Tyler Davis then gave the No. 25 ranked singles player Yassine Smiej a good hard-fought match, but also came up just short losing in the No. 1 position.

With the Eagles up 3-0, PLNU needed four straight victories for the upset. Alejandro Castaneda fell in the opening set of his match 6-2, and then lost a very competitive match 7-5 for Concordia to clinch the match victory.
