SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma men's tennis team honored their senior today before the match against No. 10 Hawaii Pacific. The seniors did not get the victory they were hoping for but now will look to make a run in the PacWest Championships.
The match started with doubles play, and with Hawaii Pacific taking the point, but not before Point Loma would scare the nationally-ranked Sharks.
Yuki Okamoto and
Tyler Davis played the No. 1 doubles pair to a tiebreaker that ultimately went Hawaii Pacific's way. The Sharks would capture the point after winning 7-5 on the other two courts.
Point Loma would bounce right back, thanks to
Alejandro Castaneda. Castaneda, who was playing in the No. 4 position got the Sea Lions on the board after defeating his opponent in straight sets. After tying the match, HPU would win in the No. 5 and No. 2 positions to take a 3-1 lead.
Tyler Davis would cut the deficit in half after a strong victory in the No. 1 position.
Point Loma fought hard in the last two positions but wound up dropping them both. The Sharks of Hawaii Pacific would win the match 5-2.
