SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Point Loma men's tennis team fell just short of upsetting the No. 14 Concordia Eagles in the quarterfinals of the PacWest Championships. The Sea Lions lost the match 4-3.
Point Loma took the early lead after capturing the doubles point.
Alejandro Castaneda and
Lukas Schuster gave PLNU the early advantage after defeating their opponents 6-1.
Jasdeep Paintal and
David Strassburger then sealed the doubles play point with a 6-2 victory in their match.
Yuki Okamoto and
Tyler Davis were behind in their match 2-1 when the doubles point got clinched.
With a lot of momentum on their side, Point Loma was looking for the upset. Concordia got the first point in singles play as they won in the No. 2 position, tying the game 1-1. Point Loma quickly got that point back after
David Strassburger quickly defeated his opponent 6-3 and 6-1.
The back and forth continued as Concordia would tie the game back up after getting a win in the No. 4 position. With the game tied 2-2,
Tyler Davis came through with another point for the Sea Lions. After dropping the first set, Davis won the next two sets to win the match and give PLNU a 3-2 lead over Concordia.
Lukas Schuster and
Jasdeep Paintal both won their first set and needed just one more set win to give PLNU the victory. Unfortunately neither were able to and Concordia came back to win the match 4-3.
