SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma women's tennis team went toe-to-toe against the No. 7 ranked Hawaii Pacific Sharks today, but ultimately came up just short losing the match 4-3.

Point Loma got the early advantage as they took the doubles point. Rachel Whittington and Thelma Sepulveda defeated their opponents to gain the early momentum for the Sea Lions. The Sharks responded right back winning in the No. 2 position, but Point Loma did not back down. Angelique Friedrich and Gabi Armas defeated their opponent 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 11-9. With that win, the Sea Lions moved to singles play looking for the upset.

Singles play started with the Sharks picking up two quick points in the No. 3 and No. 1 positions. Once again PLNU responded right back as Samantha Neilson won her match in straight sets to even the match 2-2.

Faith Pearson then put the Sea Lions in front 3-2 after defeating her opponent in the No. 4 position in three sets. Needing just one more point PLNU rallied around Thelma Sepulveda and Gabi Armas. Unfortunately, both dropped their sets and HPU took the match 4-3.
