SURPRISE, Ariz – The Point Loma women's tennis team fell to Biola in the quarterfinals of the PacWest Championships 4-1. The Sea Lions will now move to the consolation bracket and play the loser of Azusa Pacific and MSU – Denver tomorrow.
The match started with doubles play where PLNU was looking to build on the momentum they built yesterday. PLNU came out fast grabbing an early lead in the sets, but Biola found their groove. Biola would take the doubles point winning in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and would take a 1-0 lead to singles play.
Rachel Whittington and
Thelma Sepulveda were up 4-3 in their match when Biola clinched the doubles point.
Biola went up 2-0 after getting a victory in the No. 4 position. Point Loma responded with a win in the No. 2 position by
Thelma Sepulveda. Sepulveda won her first set 6-4 and was leading 3-2 in the second set when her opponent retired giving her the victory. After cutting the lead down to one point, Point Loma could not get any closer.
Biola went on to win in the No. 1 and No. 5 positions to clinch the match and move on to the semifinals.
Samantha Neilson was headed to the third set of her match when Biola clinched, and
Amanda Letzring was down 5-1 in the third set of her match.
